why do I sweat a lot during exercise?

why do I sweat a lot during exercise?

During exercise, you burn out lot of calories which generates heat. This heat increases your body temperature. In order to protect your core temperature from rising at dangerous levels, your body tries to cool itself in the form of sweat. It's a clear salty liquid that comes out of your body through sweat glands. Sweating is a normal healthy response to the heating of the body and its completely normal.

The most common spots of sweat are underarms, palms, soles and forehead because they have highest density of sweat glands. Your back has lower density of sweat gland, but they may perspire first because these glands are quickest to responds to your brain signals at time of heat or stress. Sweating depends on climatic conditions, intensity of exercise and your body.

Excessive sweating leads to decrease in your performance, discomfort and muscle cramps. Technical term for excessive sweating is hyperhidrosis.

Everyone sweats at different temperature and at different exertion levels. So don't worry if you sweat a lot.

Fluids

Sweating a lot leads to dehydration, which can impair metabolism and decrease blood flow to muscles. So you need to keep yourself hydrated.

How much you keep yourself hydrated depends upon your sweat rate, mode of exercise, exercise intensity, its duration and weather conditions.

Sports drink contains carbohydrates, electrolytes, minerals and flavor. They replenish lost water and electrolytes. Whereas energy drinks are drinks which also contains caffeine or non-nutritious things to increase your energy levels.

Water is, and always will be the best choice to replenish your lost fluids. But there are other drinks available in the market such as Gatorade and Powerade which gives you additional electrolytes to recover from dehydration caused by exercise.

Fabrics

You can also use workout clothes for excessive sweating as they will keep you dried, cooler and comfortable. These clothes are moisture-wicking, quick-drying and odor-resistance.

Fabrics of your choice should be

Polyester - it dries quickly, prevents bacteria from building up and causing odor.

Nylon- it lifts perspiration from and transport it to outer fabric layer to dry quickly.

Spandex - also called as LYCRA or elastane, It is stretchy and gives you maximum freedom for moving your body.

Always wear breathable and loose fitting clothes.

Antiperspirants or Deodorants

Many people who suffer with excessive sweat also suffer with stinky sweat.

You can make use of antiperspirants and deodorants to solve this problem.

Antiperspirants differs from deodorants, as antiperspirants reduce amount of sweat a person can produce whereas deodorants has antibacterial properties and a smell to mask your body odor. As both have their own advantages, choice depends on you.

There are several medical treatment options available in the market but I will not recommend you because its better to be natural.
